Autism Spectrum Disorder and Mental Health

This workshop will focus on ASD and co-existing mental health challenges, with a particular emphasis on anxiety. The way in which these symptoms present in individuals with ASD will be highlighted, as well as contributing factors. Evidence-informed interventions and supports will be discussed to address these symptoms and contributing factors. The focus will be on psychological intervention, including cognitive-behaviour therapy and mindfulness for individuals with ASD and anxiety and/or depression. Information related to parent coaching and support will be weaved into the therapeutic approaches. The use and value of psychopharmacological intervention will be briefly reviewed.
